About BERO NGIMA

In the Luo language, Bero Ngima simply means “improving lives.” Since our founding in January 2022, this translation has served as both our name and our unwavering mandate. Founded by a dedicated coalition of young professionals, we are a Community-Based Organization (CBO) built on a singular, urgent mission: to halt socio-economic decline and eradicate poverty across the communities of Lake Victoria’s Kavirondo Gulf.

Obaria Beach is a historic lakeside fishing settlement home to approximately 900 households. While the community is rich in resilience, it faces compounding systemic challenges. With youth aged 15–35 making up more than half of the population, we exist to rewrite narratives and transform barriers into sustainable opportunities.
