Drugs & Substance Abuse

The Root Cause in Obaria Beach

With over half of the Obaria Beach population consisting of youth, the compounding challenges of high unemployment and poverty have fueled a silent epidemic of drug and substance abuse. Idleness and a lack of economic opportunity are the primary drivers of this crisis.

This epidemic fractures households, drives up local crime rates, and severely limits the potential of the entire community. Breaking this cycle requires more than just clinical intervention. It requires creating genuine pathways to economic independence.

Our Objective

“To prevent substance dependency and build sustainable recovery pathways by combining structured rehabilitation with active job creation, fostering a healthier and economically resilient community.”

How We Drive Recovery

Bero Ngima CBO approaches substance abuse as a treatable condition rooted in socioeconomic challenges. We execute our intervention and recovery strategy through four core pillars:

01

Rehabilitation & Medical Enrollment

The first step toward healing is accessing professional care. Our field teams actively identify and recruit individuals struggling with severe substance abuse into structured recovery programs. We facilitate access to safe detoxification services and clinical counseling, ensuring participants have the medical supervision required to begin their journey toward sobriety.

Psycho-Social Support
02

Psycho-Social & Family Support

Overcoming addiction requires an ongoing commitment from both the individual and their household. We provide robust psycho-social care through localized peer support groups and one-on-one mentorship. Concurrently, we hold specialized training sessions for family members to educate them on healthy coping strategies and crucial relapse prevention techniques.

Economic Empowerment
03

Economic Empowerment Initiatives

Recovery is impossible without hope, purpose, and a livelihood. To directly combat the unemployment that drives substance abuse, we engage recovering youths and at-risk community members in structured local enterprises. By creating sustainable jobs in cooperative agribusiness, regulated sand mining, and community fishing, we provide a steady income and a renewed sense of dignity.

Preventative Awareness
04

Preventative Community Awareness

Prevention remains our most powerful tool to protect the next generation. We run aggressive awareness campaigns designed to educate the public on the severe health and social dangers of substance abuse. Through targeted school workshops, direct street outreach, and localized media campaigns, we actively dismantle the normalization of drug use among our youth.

Measuring Our Impact

We monitor our intervention programs closely to ensure we are creating a safer, more economically stable environment for the residents of Obaria Beach.

Number of sustainable local jobs created through agribusiness, sand mining, and fishing.

Documented decrease in drug-related incidents and local community crime rates.

Number of individuals successfully enrolled and retained in recovery programs.

Increased social cohesion and successful economic reintegration of recovering youths.
